Samuel M. Carter has a background in securities law, including roles as in-house counsel and senior compliance officer at an institutional broker-dealer, state securities regulator, and financial services compliance advisor at Advisor Guidance, Inc. Prior to working in the securities industry, Sam was an international tax and M&A attorney at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP and a Logistics Officer in the United States Marine Corps. Sam earned a Juris Doctor degree from Villanova University's Charles Widger School of Law, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from the University of New Hampshire.
Sam works with registered investment advisors and broker-dealers on their compliance programs and regulatory responsibilities, including matters involving the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and state securities agencies. He also serves as the outsourced Chief Compliance Officer for SEC-registered investment advisors.
Sam has spent much of his career working with the rules designed to protect investors and hold financial firms accountable for how they operate and communicate. Sam reviews Datalign content with the same lens he brings to his compliance work: Is the information clear? Is it accurate? Does it make claims responsibly? Does it give people useful information without telling them what financial decisions to make?
For people who trust Datalign to learn about their finances or match with a financial advisor, Sam's review provides an additional layer of scrutiny from someone who has spent his career working in investor protection and financial regulation.
